2021 Nokomis Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble_1 Concert Band Excerpts from Carnival of The Animals by Camille Saint-Saens Arranged by James Curnow Mvt 1. Royal March of The Lion Mvt 2. The Elephant Bass Clarinet Solo: Melissa Walker (Jr.) Composed in 1886 with 14 movements in total each one representing a different animal or animals. The French composer Saint-Saens intended for this to be a humorous piece and did not think much of it yet it turned out to be one of his most famous works. Excerpts from Inchon by Robert W. Smith Alto Flute Solo: Ryleigh Byrd (Jr.) This work was inspired by the events surrounding the Inchon-Seoul campaign of the Korean Conflict and is dedicated to the composer's father, a Korean War veteran. You will musically experience the sounds of the ocean through wind instruments and percussion and the initial helicopter landing (via drums) made by the 1st Marine Division as well as instruments conveying the sounds of battle. Valley Forge March by Karl L. King arranged by James Swearingen Composed in 1943 by one of the most influential composers of marches. This was one of King’s most popular marches with a light and easy going melody. Birdland is one of the most famous jazz clubs in the world, opening in New York City in 1949.
